OSC kerfuffle

There was a minor mix-up at the Ontario Science Centre. No one seemed to know where we were to conduct our RASC meeting. Normally, we have access to the auditorium. But Doug tipped us off early that there may be a problem. And that was the last we heard from him.

When Sharmin and I arrived at 6:30-ish, it was clear there was lots going on. We bumped into Tom who was setting up signs. He said he had been told we were in the usual spot. Good. But when Manuel and I walked onto the auditorium stage floor, it was obvious that we had been booted.

I sought out a security person but even he did not seem to know what was going on. He directed me to the Gemini East room. Gettin' my walkies, this evening. The room had clearly been used for a small group, with some banquet tables set up. No computer. No technician. I checked Gemini West. Ah. Humans. The cleaner didn't know what was up. The audio visual technician wasn't sure where we were supposed to be. But they both were fairly certain we were not to set up in Gemini.

Back across the bridge and I shared the news with Sharmin and Tom and others. I asked the security person if there was anyway to find out for certain where we had been assigned. He explained what I already suspected: the offices were closed and booking staff were not around.

We made the executive decision to use Studio 2. Just when the A/V tech showed up with the computer cart from Gemini West. Good. I'd not have to do my The Sky This Month presentation without slides. Ironically, I could have done it, on this occasion, without aids...

In the end it all worked out. No harm, no foul.
