Pulled the back cover off the GoToStar hand controller.
This revealed what the little hole on the back is for. Not a reset button; it's for the speaker.
It's a little hard to see in the photo but just to the left of the RJ jacks is the white LED. Should be easy to flip to a red one, if needed.
Yep. There's a battery on board. Nickel Metal Hydride. 2.4 volts. 40 milli-ampere-hours. That looks like 2 cells strapped together. Boo! It's hard-mounted...
But maybe it won't be too difficult to remove.

(called on ebay= Ni-MH 80mAh 2.4V button Rechargeable Battery w/ tab)
it just fit i, can not close totaly the case there is still an unoticeable gap so it is fine for me.
do you know how to use the SAO catalog because the gotostar seems to request a goto number which i don't know what it can be?

Hi Vince.
Thanks for the tip on the battery. I'm looking around now for a new one to replace mine. That's always a good idea to go for more milli amp hours!
The hand controller can let you look up stars by there SAO number. You'd maybe get the SAO number from a magazine or planetarium software. Sometimes when I'm trying to find a particular double star, I figure out its SAO number in the software, then I punch that number into the GoToStar menu. I also use that method sometimes when trying to find a comet. In software, I find a bright star near the comet, get the SAO, and enter that number in the hand controller.
The GoToStar also has star catalogs by name and other methods.
cheers,
Blake
