imaged Mizar and Alcor (Stillwater Lake)

A week ago, I queued up two jobs for fun to image Mizar and Alcor with the wide-field MRO 'scope at the Abbey Ridge Observatory. Centred on GSC 03850-0177. I also considered HDR processing so shot one long exposure and the other short.

Shot ζ (zeta) UMa at 2:11 AM AST.

Mizar and Alcor in luminance short exposure

Luminance only, ½ second subexposures, 12 stacked shots. FITS Liberator, GIMP. North is up; left is east.

Shot slow at 2:24 AM AST.

Mizar and Alcor in luminance long exposure

Luminance only, 5 seconds subexposures, 12 stacked shots. FITS Liberator, GIMP. North is up; left is east.

In the fast shot, you can split Mizar A and B.

Mizar: aka ζ Ursae Majoris, 79 UMa, Σ1744 (Struve, STF), HR 5054, HD 116656, SAO 28737, PPM 34007, and HIP 65378.

Alcor: 80 UMa, STF 1744 D, HR 5062, HD 116842, SAO 28751, PPM 34021, and HIP 65477.

The star between, to the south: Sidus Ludoviciana, Sidum Ludovicianum, Ludwig's Star, HD 116798, SAO 28748, and PPM 34017.

There appear to be some other intriguing pairs nearby...
