still useful

Wait a second.

While preparing the ASUS Eee PC 1000 for retirement, it occurred to me that it can still serve a very useful purpose in astronomy projects.

It still works perfectly fine with the Canon EOS Utilities software...

The netbook can still be used for image capture!

As I have considered the move to the new computer for SkyTools 4 for planning and mount control, initially I just thought I'd replicate everything, move over all the apps, and repeat everything I had been doing on John Repeat Dance.

But I can continue to use the old portable.

A dedicated machine!

It's more gear to carry around but it promises more flexibility and resilience. Less load on each machine.

This has got me thinking about remote ops too...

It is nice. A good thing. Many fun times with the ASUS netbook. An amazing computer, sourced initially by Phil C, many moons ago. Circa April 2009? Very good build quality. Very good implementation with smart applets.  I'm feeling nostalgic.
