I think though that throwing the unit into the sink a couple of times, to avoid lighting myself (or the CAO) on fire, deformed the burner. It was breathing too much air; or not enough.
Pliers helped me get the burner looking symmetrical again. I poked and prodded the screen.
The Restoration Hardware unit lit fairly quickly this evening. Toasty warm in short order.
