Picked up a book on hold at the Runnymede Branch of the Toronto Public Library:

The Sky is Your Laboratory: Advanced Astronomy Projects for Amateurs by Bob Buchheim.

I had totally forgotten about this! And by coincidence the TPL system was not able to tell me the title. So it was a nice little surprise.

I expect I shall feel very inspired by this book.

That said, a quick scan of the TOC did not show the topic of double stars...
