While reading Gary Honis's web page on his hacks and tricks with his Canon Rebel camera, I noted his suggestion of using a software magnifier, over top of the EOS Utility Live View. Sneaky. This increased boost in magnification he found useful for helping reach focus.
He pointed out the Windows XP has a built-in tool. It's part of the accessibility features. He said it wasn't very powerful but it looks pretty thorough to me. So, it merits exploring.
Gary said he preferred Magnifying Glass 1.0. Unfortunately the link was dead. I went a snooping.
I think I found the one he's used. Magnifying Glass 1.1 (updated August 2010) freeware from the Workers Collection web site. They have a pro version too...
I also found a promising open source solution. Virtual Magnifying Glass 3.5 for Windows, Mac, Linux.
