Tried to spot the comet in bins. Nearly overhead. It was 1½ fields north-east of the Pleiades (M45). No luck. I saw the hockey stick of stars with 54 Persei. I saw HR 1390. 46P was supposed to be right there. Panned about. Too much Moon sadly...
Peeked at Messier 42 (M42), ι (iota) Orionis, the belt stars of Orion, σ (sigma) Orionis, and Meissa [ed: er, Collinder 69]. Then some streamers parked right in the area of the comet. OK. I get the message.
