gift of pencils

About to crawl into my tent, Sharmin appeared out of the darkness. Gift bag in hand. Just after midnight! I thanked her and she disappeared in the night. How sweet.

Inside my tent, I felt through the wrapping. Thin, rectangular, ridges at the edge. It wasn't a book even the weight was about right. Even unwrapped, at first, I wasn't sure what it was, this flat black case. Scribbles. A Frank Gehry impulsive architectural sketch. It wasn't until I turned it over and noted the back sticker and saw the grades, 4H, 2H, H, F... all the way up to 4B, 5B, and still further to 8B.

Sketching pencils! From the AGO. What a wonderful gift. How thoughtful!

Wow. I didn't even know pencils went that far!

Honestly, I forget it was the eve of my birthday.

When I saw the Facebook e-mail reminder about your birthday, I didn't have much time to think about what to get. Nor I had time in my schedule to go present hunting before AAA.  AGO is close to work, it took me 2 min to decide to get you the case of pencils. Knowing Lora, I knew she'll have cake to celebrate. So I thought I'll bring it to the party. At the AAA Lora told me we'll celebrate Tony's B-day too and I didn't have anything for Tony, "I didn't get the memo!" I told Lora and Phil that I have a gift for you only, they suggested I give it to you before the party. Since the movie at the yurt continued late and midnight was near, I thought I'll give it to you before I head out for my walk. It all worked out. Glad you like the gift and using it.

Well, it was brilliant. Two minutes is short but you were insightful.
