sparkling garnet

Sharmin just reported that she found The Garnet Star is Cepheus. Remarked on the huge sun's stunning colour. She wondered why it was twinkling less than before. I reminded her that Cepheus was rising and the night time air was probably cooling. I assumed she had been at it for a while. I suppose tube currents might be a factor...

Yes, I was at it for a while. It caught my bare eyes, at about 22:00. It was very twinkly even with the last glow of the sun still present. Then I caught it in binocular at 22:20. No bright stars were visible nearby to starhop except Deneb and every lightbulb in two buildings were turned on. So I waited till later to view it in the scope. When I reported 'the sighting', I was trying to determine which star it was. I used stellarium to match the positions of the stars and concluded it was the Garnet star in Cepheus. First time came to know of it. Beautiful fire-orange color was really stunning. I'll enjoy viewing it again during next session. Thank you for the explanation about more vs. less twinkling of stars.
